Orangutan Jungle School (Channel 4, 8pm)

Documentary series following the inhabitants and staff at a unique rehabilitation centre for orphan orangutans learning vital life skills before returning to the wild. We get to meet various big characters from the Jungle School, including class clown Valentino and the very hungry Beni, who has been struggling with childhood obesity because of his large appetite. We also get to meet some of the staff, including Letha who sees the animals as her foster children.

Recipes That Made Me: Punjab (BBC Two, 8pm)

A new series in which Nisha Katona travels the UK meeting passionate home cooks to learn how family recipes have been passed down through generations from across the Indian subcontinent. Tonight, the first episode kicks off with a trip to the West Midlands, where Nisha discovers some of our favourite recipes from the Punjab, learns about their love of bread, and makes tandoori chicken and spinach paneer.

American Sniper (RTÉ One, 9.35pm)

Bradley Cooper stars in the 2014 drama which follows US Navy Seal Chris Kyle on a mission to protect his fellow soldiers. Kyle eventually becomes one of the most lethal snipers in American history, making him a prime target for insurgents. As time goes by, he finds it difficult to connect with his wife and kids, but still chooses to serve four tours of duty in Iraq. When he returns home, he struggles to leave the war behind.

As Digital Spy pointed out, the penultimate episode of Ackley Bridge dealt very sensitively with the topic of teen pregnancy and abortion.

• Reeling in the Years (RTÉ One, 6.30pm) The stories and soundtrack of 1971, when Ireland got colour television and the Women’s Liberation Movement protested for contraception in Connolly Station.
